Anitta | The Ultimate Girl From Rio

I

f by now you don’t know who Anitta is, it’s really time you do. The 28-year-old Rio de Janeiro native is, in my opinion, Brazil's most talented entrepreneur and most valuable export. She's had an insane musical career, reaching far past a decade. She speaks numerous languages fluently, with an adopted accent for each country. (Only those who know will really understand how hard it is to mask a Brazilian accent while speaking English.) According to Anitta, a boyfriend from each country is apparently the trick to perfect any language. She has created a dance move, the quadradinha (English translation: "The Square"), which in itself has become a cultural phenomenon and probably been practiced over a trillion times. (I don't have the data to back that up, but go google it and let me know.)

“Despite the criticism she’s received — which is enough to make even the most prepared celebrities hide inside and hope for another 12 months of lockdown — she continues to champion her country through her creative contribution, education, debate, and, of course, shaking that big Latina ass.”

She’s brilliantly intelligent, sharp-witted, and honest about all those things one needs to know (who she’s shagging, what plastic surgery she’s had, and her political opinions). Despite the criticism she’s received — which is enough to make even the most prepared celebrities hide inside and hope for another 12 months of lockdown — she continues to champion her country through her creative contribution, education, debate, and, of course, shaking that big Latina ass.

When it comes to fashion, Anitta is ever-morphing alongside the releases of her songs and albums. With the launch of “Girl From Rio” just around the corner, one cannot help but be excited about the persona she plans to bring to, not only the Brazilian population, but to the world! This, for one, excites me tremendously. Brazil is a melting pot for creativity and style but is often overlooked internally and celebrated more by our foreign admirers. I can’t help but wonder if Anitta taking the Carioca “marra” and addictive energy global will be the fashion eruption we need for Brazil to remerge as a creative force to be reckoned with.

Until recently, I had never thought that much of Australia as a fashion leader, and they are just blowing it out of the water right now with the digitally native brands. Summer is our season, and we do this year-round. Maybe with the seasonality of fashion week becoming less relevant, Brazil will have a chance to take a piece of the pie.

Brazil’s had a shit year, to say the least. The press has had a field day, and rightly so… Whether it’s the pandemic, politics, the Amazon, or the economy, things are generally not looking great right now. We need a pick me up right now. We need to feel that Carioca female energy, and thank you, God, the Universe, and all the Spirits that be for Anitta – the ultimate Girl From Rio.
